Sign for IT support with Open & Closed indicator

We are setting up a new On-Site IT support team at work, as apparently our support monkey was not doing good enough job. I decided that they need a proper sign for their desk which can show if they are in the office or not. It’s a simple design made out of 3mm birch plywood, 3mm acrylic plates, and 3D printed bezels.

Ready sign. Turned out pretty nice!
This is the plan.
It’s split into multiple layers, which will be glued together. It stands on a separate 3D printed stand.
The design is split into vectors…
… and loaded to the laser cutter.
The bezels are 3D printed out of white PLA. I also added an additional large bezel which covers all the sides.
The wood is glued together…
… and the acrylic is sandwiched in between.
The moving hatch has two grooves to open it. It’s measured so that the opposing groove is always behind the bezel when the hatch is pushed to the side.
I also designed a simple 3D printed stand for the sign.
After the outside bezel is added, the On-Site support is open!
Or, it can also be closed 😉
