Personalised Key Holder

We were going to visit family abroad and the day before we were heading to the airport, I realised that I should have made something as a gift. Couple of weeks back I made a template for a simple key holder that I was planning to give out as a Christmas present. I had a stroke of genius: I’ll make couple of those before we leave, and our family abroad can do some field testing before I make more of them! This way I will know if the design actually works, and they get a nice little gift.

I spent couple of hours cutting and preparing the leather, and then sewed the edges in the evening. I even 3D printed stamps that I could use on my fly press and personalise the holders.

Overall, a very quick project and it even looks good in my opinion! Now it is left to be seen if the design actually works.

I used black and brown 3mm thick vegetable tanned leather.
The black one got sewn with yellow 0.5mm waxed polyester thread, and the brown one was sewn with dark brown thread.
The holders are closed with line 20 snaps.
Each holds two key rings so you can keep your often used keys outside the holder if you want.
I used my smaller maker’s mark for the first time. It looks awesome!
The key rings are held in place with an M5 x 15mm Chicago screw that goes through grommets installed on both sides of the holder.
It’s a simple template which uses very little leather. Let’s hope that it works as intended…
